What grade do I need on my final?
Free final exam grade calculator: enter your current grade, the final's weight and your target to see the score you need. Shows best and worst case. Runs in your browser.
Common cutoffs: A = 90%, B = 80%, C = 70%. Use your syllabus.
The formula
Needed on final = (target − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight
Example: you have 85%, the final is worth 25%, and you want 90%: (90 − 85 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = (90 − 63.75) ÷ 0.25 = 105%. That isn't possible without extra credit, but 80% overall (a B) only needs (80 − 63.75) ÷ 0.25 = 65%.
This assumes your current grade already includes everything except the final and nothing else changes. If your course drops the lowest score or curves, the real number will differ.
